A Life Among the Mountains: My Story
My relationship with the mountains began early, when I was just 12 years old. With the encouragement and help of my parents, I started downhill skiing. A few years later, from the ages of 14 to 17, I found myself competing as a skier, experiencing the magic of speed and technique on the snowy slopes.
But, at the age of 18, fate took me on a different path. A friend from Austria, Jozef, who became my mentor, introduced me to ski mountaineering and climbing. That's how I found my true calling.
In 1990 I completed my first mountaineering and climbing training with the Hellenic Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (EOOA). A year later, I traveled to Nepal for the first time, climbing Tharpu Chuli (5,600 m). This experience paved the way for a new career. I began my semi-professional involvement with the mountains, creating hiking and climbing routes for the public.
However, my path was not without obstacles. In March 1993, during a ski mountaineering training, I had a serious accident that kept me from walking for nine years. I did not give up. That summer, I started organizing mountain bike tours, building on my experience from road cycling as a teenager. With each bike ride, my body got stronger and my leg gradually improved.
In 2001, while taking on a hiking tour for a group again, I realized that my leg had fully recovered. I started hiking, climbing, and ski mountaineering again, returning to my great loves.
In 2004, at a national climbing meeting in Meteora, I reunited with old friends, such as Vangelis Vroutsis. With him, I climbed Mont Blanc again, accompanying a group of young people from the Athens Youth Climbing Association. Since then, I have spent several months every year in Chamonix, cultivating my alpinism skills.
In 2009, I lost a very good friend of mine in the Alps. This loss motivated me to improve my skills and become an even better mountain guide.
2012 was a year of change. I focused on private guides and dedicated more time to my training and practice in the mountains. In 2016 I became Aspirant UIAGM Mountain Guide, achieving a lifelong dream.
Today, I divide my life between Chamonix and Crete. I organize private tours for friends, families and people who share the same passion for the mountains. I am very happy to see that I am sharing this experience with people who appreciate the power and beauty of nature.
I hope to meet you one day on one of these trips!
